History of Iran-Djibouti Relation
Diplomatic relation between Iran and Djibouti started by the appointment of an Accredited Ambassador in 1977, when the Republic of Djibouti acquired its independence from France. At the time, the responsibility of the establishment and coordination of relation with the newly independent Djibouti devolved to the then Embassy of Iran in Northern Yemen.

After the Islamic Revolution, in 1993, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Addis Ababa was assigned as Accredited Ambassador in Djibouti. At the end of his mission, this responsibility entrusted to the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Paris. In 1999, this task was again returned to the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Addis Ababa.

The Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Djibouti maintained tight and cordial relations after the end of the 8-year old imposed war between Iran and its naughty neighbor Iraq. Since then, the two countries have exchanged some high level official visits in an endeavor to consolidate relations between the two Muslim countries. The last visit, was the first official visit of H.E. Mr. Ismail Omar Guelleh, President of the Republic of Djibouti to Tehran, which successfully held from 2 to 4 December 2003. During this historical visit, many agreements were signed between the two countries, among which are commercial, industrial, mining, and health agreements. A loan agreement, which was initiated by the Government of Djibouti and the Export Development Bank of Iran to finance the construction of the Parliament of Djibouti and the Business Center, was also finalized.
